Indeed. Now Obama’s decision to attend just seems weird. Hopefully this causes him to reassess his devotion to Valerie Jarrett, who supposedly was the one who convinced him to make the Crazy Ivan and head to Copenhagen.

The “city that works” is also the city with the highest sales tax in the nation (10.25 percent.) In the first six months of 2009, the retail sales in the Chicago metropolitan area plunged by nearly $6 billion – a record-breaking loss that surpassed the loss seen in all of 2008 (a record at the time now shattered by the losses seen in the first six months of this year.)

Daley’s ability to negotiate on behalf of Chicago was seriously called into question with the dreadful 75 yr parking lease he negotiated, which supposedly cost the city more than a billion in revenues.

We’re just an hour or so away from learning whether or not the city with a huge debt burden will be handed a project that calls for the city to take on more debt. Here’s to hoping we get what’s best for Chicago….

Brazil will also be hosting the 2014 World Cup, so it will have just come off a building boom.

For what it’s worth, the Games would take place in the northern, not southern, summer – August 2016.

Well done, Taunter. You succeeding in further bolstering my pre-existing inclination to root against Chicago.

Here’s another reason to hope Rio gets it. They deserve it. No Olympics has ever been held on the entire continent of South America. Rio has put in a great bid, is an extremely charismatic city (albeit with a not insignificant amount of abject poverty), and they have worked hard to win, including not one but many visits to Copenhagen by Lula da Silva.

Plus, Rio is only GMT -2 during their summer so we can still watch live Olympic coverage without having to stay up until 3:00am.

As a Chicagoan, a heartfelt thank you!

This is about 2 things: Ego and dollars. Daley and the power brokers are salivating over the chance to build a gigantic edifice to their egos. It doesn’t hurt to be able to dip one’s beak a little in the river of cash that would flow past either.

We locals always remember the unofficial motto: “Where’s mine?”
