Still Surfing

Wow – AIG bailout, a 4% drop in the market, and Morgan Stanley talking about merging with Wachovia.  Interesting times.  Sure none of you has a good oil industry idea – as mentioned earlier, I am increasingly convinced of the peak oil hypothesis (http://theoildrum.com/)?  Anything thesis that has as one of its central tenets that the Gulf states are liars has to be on the road to something…

National Review always was a bit odd:

Gratuitous lie from our friend Sarah.  Back in the Saddam days – even before Baghdad Bob – I remember someone making the case that Saddam’s lying was the ultimate proof of his strength.  It wasn’t the 1984 answer, where the power worms its way into your mind; rather, Saddam insisted on stuff you knew couldn’t be true just because he could, because the fact that you couldn’t let yourself dismiss such a stupid lie diminished you, the listener.  I find this one of the hallmarks of the Bush administration (and, to be fair, Hillary): “I’m just going to say this and you are going to sit there and take it because there is nothing you can do about it”.

And if you are growing up in Wasilla, AK, I think you should be free to do whatever it takes to pretend you are not in Wasilla.
